William Arthur Perkins' Obituary
Funeral services for William A. Perkins, 69, of Longview will be held at 10 AM Monday, September 16, 2013 in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home of Longview with Bro. Don Beebe and Bro. Scott Darby officiating. Burial will follow in Grace Hill Cemetery. Mr. Perkins passed away on Friday afternoon in a local hospital. Services are under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6-8 PM at the funeral home.
William A. Perkins was born in Longview, Texas at Markham Hospital on the 10th of June 1944 to Enola and William I. Perkins of Hawkins. He was raised in East Texas all of his life, attending Kilgore, Hawkins, and Longview schools. He was avid in all sports but excelled in football. Mr. Perkins went into the Army in 1967 and served in Viet Nam in '68 during the TET offensive. He was past Commander of the VFW Post 1183 and President of Viet Nam Veterans of America Longview Chapter 987. He avidly supported veterans and their causes, helping many younger veterans get the help that they needed in the VA system.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Perkins; his children and their spouses Chad and Angie, Tami and Glyn, Danny, Connie and Jim, and Cindy and Melvin; sister and brother-in-law Segayle and Jerb McConnell; grandchildren and their spouses Leslie and Jeremiah, Jason and Lauren; Chris, Kelly and Josiah, Michael and Miranda, Landon, Tifani and Bob, Lillian, and Daisy; seven great grandchildren, Addison, Emme, Shepherd, Layken, Asher, Haven and Morrigan; and nephews Theron, Shane, and Byron.
