William Clarence (Bill) McLendon, Jr.
William Clarence (Bill) McLendon Jr. was born in Longview, Texas, on September 22, 1944, to Ruth and William Clarence (Mac) McLendon, Sr. He passed away on September 30, 2014 of cardiac arrerst. Bill graduated from Longview High School in 1963. He attended Lamar University and graduated with a degree in biology and a minor in chemistry and then attended the University of Texas dental school and graduated with his DDS in 1970. He practiced general dentistry in Longview, Texas, for over 40 years. He was a devoted husband and father who loved his family, dentistry, his patients, and his loyal office staff.
Bill was an avid and highly accomplished hunter, rifleman, and outdoorsman. Bill was a life-member of both the National Rifle Association, the North American Hunting Club and a long-time member of Ducks Unlimited. He loved to share stories about his outdoor adventures with patients and friends. Bill was a gentle soul who never met a stranger.
Bill is preceded in death by his father, William Clarence McLendon Sr. and his mother Ruth Elizabeth McLendon; and step son Luke Humphrey.
He is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 19 years, Susan McLendon, son William Clarence (Will) McLendon III, daughter Charisse and husband Rob Tolleson, son, John Gasper, and daughter Kari Schneck and husband Thomas; two brothers, James Robert (Bob) McLendon, Sr. and wife Susan, Larry Ross McLendon and wife Ginger, a sister, Gaynel Thompson and husband Keith, and grandchildren, Emeline, Henry, and Ridley Tolleson and Harrison Taylor; several nieces and nephews.
Celebration of Life Memorial Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 4, 2014 in The Ford Chapel of First Baptist Church of Longview with Reverend Ben Leonard officiating. Visitation with the family will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, October 3, at Rader Funeral Home of Longview, with cremation to follow.
