Wehlan McPherson's Obituary
Wehlan McPherson, 72, died Monday January 24. Born November 12, 1938, Wehlan was a lifelong resident of East Texas. He graduated from Longview High School and attended Kilgore College. In High School, Wehlan sang with his friends in ?The Fresh Boys? quartet. His beautiful tenor voice will be remembered by his classmates and friends. After a brief professional singing career with his friends, Wehlan returned to Longview, where he married his High School sweetheart, Ann Sandridge, and raised two children. Through the years, Wehlan continued to sing and share music with his friends in Barbershop Quartets and church choirs until health issues began to affect ability to participate. After retiring from Texas Eastman, Wehlan enjoyed spending time on his tractor, taking care of his home, travelling and visiting family.
Wehlan was preceded in death by his parents, Garland and Loriece McPherson and his brother Garland Riden McPherson. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 50 years, Ann Sandridge McPherson, daughter and son-in-law Bonnie and Wesley Freeman of Longview; son and daughter-in-law Doug and Sandy McPherson of Littleton, MA; grandchildren Nicholas Freeman and wife, Amanda, of Longview; Ryan Freeman and wife, Cara, of White Oak; Aaron Freeman of Longview, Geoffrey Freeman; Ben McPherson and Kevin McPherson of Littleton, MA; great grandchildren Cody and Rustin Freeman of Longview, niece Tammy McPherson of Longview; nephews Dusty and Clint McPherson of Longview and Brandy McPherson of Harleton; aunts Bonnie Herald of Everett, WA and Katie McPherson of Hobbs, NM.
The family will greet friends from 5-7 PM on Thursday January 27 at Rader Funeral Home in Longview TX. Funeral services will be at 10 AM on Friday January 28 at Rader Funeral Home with Reverend Shinia Kelsey officiating. Interment will follow at Hallsville Cemetery.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Hallsville First Methodist Church and Hallsville Volunteer Fire Department.
