Wayne P. Smith
Funeral services for Wayne P. Smith, 54, of Longview, will be held at 10 am Monday, January 3, 2005 in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home, Longview. Burial will follow in Gum Springs Cemetery. Mr. Smith passed away Friday, December 31, 2004 in a Longview hospital.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 pm Sunday at the funeral home.
Mr. Smith, born November 4, 1950 in Lawton, OK, is survived by his wife of 33 years, Gail Jerden Smith of Longview; his son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Jessica Smith; granddaughter, Shelby and grandson Brayden, all of Rockwall, TX; father and step-mother, Stan and Allene Smith of Tyler; brother and sister-in-law Randy and Sue Smith of Mt. Pleasant; his sister, Patti Smith of Greenville; several nieces and nephews; and mother-in-law and father-in-law, Jimmie and Laura Jerden of Longview.
He was preceded in death by his mother Norma Joyce Smith.
Wayne was a member of the Alpine Church of Christ. He loved fishing with family and friends, and loved to sing and listen to gospel music. He was employed by Gibson Discount Center, Eckerd Drug, Skaggs, Tom Thumb, and owned 2 local businesses, Wayne Smith Motor Co. and The Book Shelf.
Wayne retired in 2001 due to bad health.
