Virginia Faye Moore's Obituary
Funeral services for Virginia Faye Moore, 89, of Henderson, will be
held at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 27, 2009, at First Baptist Church of
Henderson with Rev. Bill Tisdale officiating. Burial will be at
Lakewood Memorial Park under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of
Henderson.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, 2009, at the
funeral home.
On July 23, 1919, Virginia Faye was born to William Marcellous Dixon
and Cassie Mae Walker Dixon on the family farm in Big Springs, Mo. She
was the 13th of 15 children born to this family with 10 children
surviving to adulthood. She departed this life on Feb. 24, 2009.
After graduation from high school in New Florence, Mo., she attended
Hannibal LeGrange College in Hannibal, Mo. and the University of
Southern Illinois graduating with a degree in elementary education.
There she met and married Dr. A.E. Prince, president of Hannibal
LeGrange. She later attended Louisiana State University earning a
master's degree in library science. Faye was associated with the St.
Louis ISD where she taught and was a librarian until her retirement.
After Dr. Prince's death, Faye married Dr. Edwin Moore, a retired
professor at ETBU and moved to Marshall. She was very active in the
First Baptist Church of Marshall where she sponsored for many years the
annual mother-daughter tea.
Mrs. Moore and Mr. Fred Hale co-sponsored many college students with
scholarships at ETBU, Baylor University, LeTourneau University and the
University of Texas. Trust funds have been established at these
universities for many years and continue to help students receive a
higher education.
Mrs. Moore was a member of the American Bell Association and had an
extensive and valuable Bell Collection that now resides in a special
museum at ETBU.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Cassie Dixon;
brothers, Sheldon, Jesse, Elmer, Otis and Hale Dixon and their spouses;
sisters, Manila Lloyd and Billie Dean Butts; three brothers-in-law,
Bill Lloyd, Leo Rawlings and Homer Jones; and a favorite niece, Elgetha
Vought.
Mrs. Moore is survived by two sisters, Margaret Jones of New Florence,
Mo. and Louella Rawlings of Montgomery City, Mo.; a very special niece,
Jeanine Kinzel and her husband, Dave of St. Charles, Mo.; a favorite
nephew, Stephen Dixon and his wife Sharon of Ft. Gibson, Okla.; a
special nephew, Randy Dixon and his wife Selena of Ennis, Texas, plus
many nieces and nephews in Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas and many other
states. One of her very special students became her adopted grandson,
Mahendran Balakrishnan. On the Moore side of the family, she is
survived by a loving nephew, Dr. Tom Moore and wife Virginia of
Arlington, Va. and their children who are very dear to her, Elizabeth
Moore and her husband Daniel Aubin of Tel Aviv, Israel, James Moore of
Okinawa, Japan and his wife Laurie of Kailua, Hawaii and Kate Moore and
her husband Maurice Sobel of Ashburn, Va. She is also survived by a
nephew, Robert Moore and his wife Mary Jo of Medford, Ore. and a niece,
Mildred Wade of Maple Valley, Wash.
She had a very special adopted family that cared for her all the years
she lived in Henderson. That family was made up of Ron and Melanie
Wood. Connie Richardson joined that family the last year and a half
providing in home care. The family of our Dear Aunt Faye wish to extend
our gratitude for the love and support they gave her.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to
Odyssey Hospice and/or the Children's Advocacy Center.
Pallbearers will be James Mead, Rusty Phenix, Willie Bennett and Sam
Moseley.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons of the First Baptist Church of
Henderson, Deacons of the First Baptist Church of Marshall and staff of
the East Texas Baptist Institute in Marshall.
