Vera Jane Patterson
Vera Jane Patterson went to be with her Lord December 5th, 2005. She was born September 1, 1906 to James M. and Myrtle Richardson in the Oak grove Community Ennis, Texas.
Vera finished Ennis High School with honors, attended Jacksonville Baptist College and taught school in Ellis County, Texas.
September 22, 1929 she married Alfred Lee Patterson. They continued teaching while finishing their schooling. They received their degrees from Baylor University in 1938.
From 1938 she worked with her husband Dr. A.L. Patterson who was business manager of American Baptist Publications where she wrote Sunday school lesson for tots. Later when her husband was elected Secretary Treasurer of Missions for the American Baptist Association she worked in the mission office until 1973.
She was a charter member of Unity Baptist Church in Texarkana, Texas where she taught an adult Ladies Sunday school Class for 38 years.
She and her husband moved to Longview, Texas in 1988. They were members of Longview Missionary Baptist Church and lived at Colonial Village until her death.
She is survived by her brother James M. Richardson and wife Lurlene of Longview, Texas; nephews, Bobby Holt of El Paso, TX.; Benny Holt of Kerens, TX,; Dale Holt of Ennis, TX.; Dr. J.M. Richardson of Longview, TX.; nieces, Myrtalou Drake of The Woodlands, TX.; Pam Kyser of Ennis, TX.; Barbara Schwartz of Dripping Springs, TX.; Janey Russell of Dripping Springs, TX.; and many great nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank all of the people at the Colonial Village and the Heart to Heart Health Unit for taking care of her in such a loving way.
Graveside services will be held at One O?clock pm Wednesday December 7, 2005 at the Myrtle Cemetery in Ennis, Texas with Reverends Noah Lee and Tony Harp officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday December 6, 2005 from 6pm until 8 pm.
