Velma Jean Pinson's Obituary
Funeral services for Velma Jean Pinson, 76, of Longview, will be 10 AM Saturday May 30, in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home, Longview. Interment will follow in Lakeview Memorial Gardens. The family will greet friends at the funeral home, Friday, May 29, from 6 to 8 PM.
Mrs. Pinson went to be with her Lord on May 28, 2009, due to complications following surgery.
A native of Bonham, Texas, she was born February 23, 1933 to F. W. and Mary Lee Wright. Velma graduated from Bonham High School as Valedictorian in 1950. She attended Austin College in Sherman and received her BA degree from Texas A & M Commerce, where she graduated with Honors in 1954. In 1966 Velma received her Masters of Education from Texas A&M Commerce. She was the lead teacher in Social Studies at Pine Tree High School where she taught for 22 years. She was a member of the Pine Tree Church of Christ and taught the Ladies Bible Class for the past 12 years.
Velma loved to travel, visited 38 countries and loved to take their motor home to the lake. She was an avid reader and loved history. She was on the Board of Directors of Longview Preschool and Child Development Center and a 19 year volunteer at Gregg County Historical Museum.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, William Carpenter. Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 55 years, Gerald, daughters: Cindy Collier and husband Scott of Dallas and Sandra Pinson Smith and husband Allen of Longview, Grandchildren: Ryan Collier and wife Leslie of Dallas and Amanda Collier of Dallas, step grandchildren: Brittany Duck and husband Brett of Longview and Kristen Smith of College Station, great grandchildren: Millie Collier and Boone Collier of Dallas and Garrison Duck and Shelbi Duck of Longview and a number of nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be sent to the Longview Preschool and Child Development Center.
