Tommy Minter Obituary
Tommy Minter, a loving husband and father, passed away on Wednesday, September 18, 2013. Born on August 18, 1939, in Henderson, Texas, he was the son of the late Jack Minter and Louise (Howeth) Minter Erwin. He grew up in Gladewater, Texas, where he is still remembered as one of the best athletes in Gladewater High School history. He attended Baylor University on an athletic scholarship for track and football and was inducted into the Baylor Sports Hall of Fame in 1999 for achievement in both of these sports. After graduating with a degree in business, he went on to play professional football for Denver and Buffalo. In 2007 he retired as owner of Auto on the Mall in Palm Desert, Ca. and returned to Texas, moving to Austin where he lived with his wife and son.
Tommy is survived by his beloved wife of 34 years, Nancy Locke Minter, and their son, TJ Minter of Austin, Texas; a daughter, Amy (Minter) Crenshaw and husband, George, of Mineola, and their two children, Michelle and Kyle; a daughter, Tammy (Minter) Chambers of Gladewater, Texas, and her three children, Cody, Haley, and J.T., along with a great granddaughter, Layla; and his endeared cousin, David Alexander and his wife, Virginia, of White Oak, Texas.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 28th at 2:00pm at the Woodland Hills Baptist Church on 2105 East Loop 281, Longview, Texas, followed by a luncheon in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, a Tommy Minter Memorial has been established at the Baylor "B" Association, Baylor University, Waco, Texas, where friends and loved ones may contribute to his memory.
