Thomas Perry Flanders

Mr. Flanders died Sunday, December 20, 2009 at a local hospital.
He was born in Marietta, Ohio to Karl and Virginia Flanders. They soon moved to the Ark-La-Tex where he attended Jr. High in Shreveport, LA, then settled in Longview attending and graduating from Longview High School. He received his BA degree from North Texas State University. Soon after graduation he was called into the United State Navy, being stationed in San Diego, CA. He served on the sub tender USS Sperry. He saw duty in Guam and Tokyo during the Korean War.
Upon his return to Longview Tom married Mildred Ann Fogleman of Terrell, TX.
He and his father, Karl, founded Flanders Chemical Company in 1955, which his family still operates to this day.
An avid hunter and fisherman since boyhood he loved the outdoors, open water and being with his family. Especially the grandkids who called him "Bumps". Every year he looked forward to trips to south Louisiana with the Delta Fishing Club, that he was proud to be a member of. Golf was another sport he loved and was proud to teach his grandson how to play.
A lifetime member of First Presbyterian Church, he was a Deacon, Elder and Cub master. He supported and belonged to American Petroleum Institute API, Ducks Unlimited, Rotary International and Oak Forest Country Club.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mildred; son, Thomas K. Flanders; daughter, Sally Alldredge; grandson, Destin Alldredge and granddaughter, London Alldredge.
We wish to thank our longtime friend and employee, Kenneth Edwards and his wife, Billie for their love and support.
Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church or to a charity of your choice.
