Terry L. Burnett's Obituary
Terry L. Burnett was born in Cooper, Texas on October 5, 1946 and died in Dallas, Texas on July 11, 2010 at the age of 63. Terry attended Kemp Public Schools where he participated in all athletics, but excelled in track. He was the first athlete from Kemp to not only go to the state track meet, but to win first place in the high and low hurdles. He attended East Texas State University earning an athletic scholarship and continued to excel in track, setting university records in intermediate hurdles, high hurdles, and relay. He was inducted into the Texas A&M Commerce ETSU Athletic Hall of Fame on October 20, 2007.
Terry received his Bachelor?s Degree from ETSU and his Master?s Degree from Stephen F. Austin.
Terry was employed by LISD for many years and worked at Bruce Jr. High School in Gilmer, Texas. He was loved and admired by his students, friends and co-workers . He was a compassionate 7th grade science teacher who had a special gift in his ability to connect with and motivate students. In addition, he was employed by A-1 Driving School for many years.
Terry cherished his wife Ellen, two daughters Amanda and Tara, and his granddaughters Leah and Lauren. Terry shared a special bond with Lauren ? they were buddies, enjoying many adventures and hours of laughter.
Terry was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Burnett. He is survived by his loving wife. Ellen; daughters Amanda Burnett; Tara Seeger and husband Gus; two granddaughters, Leah and Lauren Bird, special angels forever in his heart. Also surviving are mother, Clara Burnett; brother, Eddie Burnett and wife Sharon; sisters Mary Penn; Patti Sluder and husband Carroll; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Tuesday evening, July 13, at Radar Funeral Home in Longview, Texas from 5:30 ? 8:00 p.m., and a celebration of his life will be held on Wednesday July 14 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel at Radar Funeral Home.
