For a short time, I got to be Susie’s home health nurse. I thoroughly enjoyed just sitting and talking with her. Learning about her life and listening to her stories about her grandchildren. She loved them something fierce! A creature of habit she was! Lol. She had particular shows she liked to watch on repeat…… no matter how much Daniel tried to convince her to try something new. She had her preferences for breakfast…. Even if he went out of his way to cook something healthy. I would say a bit stubborn as well. Insistent on sleeping on the couch even though she had a brand new mattress waiting on her a few feet away. I saw an independence that she struggled to give up, but don’t we all? As Daniel’s friend, I had him telling me things to talk to her about, which of course I did. But as her nurse and bound by HIPPA, I also had her telling me about her occasional sneaking of cigarettes, behind his back (sorry Daniel!) I did, of course, try to encourage her to stop but …. That stubbornness! I didn’t get to know her long but I’ve been friends with her son for years. And I can attest to the kind of mother she was by the kind of person he is. She’s definitely leaving behind a legacy to last so many years to come. What a beautiful testament of her love. I took this picture at Daniel and Jasmine’s wedding. And I cried watching them dance together. As a mother, it’s a dream to see our children happy and loved well. I’m so grateful she got to see that! I know you’re up there walking your laps. ❤️
