Steve "Wolfman" Snider's Obituary
Steve Snider, 74, of Lake Cherokee, went into the arms of his Lord and Savior on December 5, 2023. He was born on June 27, 1949, in Longview to Floyd Snider and Emogene Snider Kennon.
Steve, the most loving and devoted husband, dad, brother, uncle, cousin, friend and the best neighbor anyone could ask for is survived by his wife, Lana; daughter, Emily “Butterfly”; sisters, Brenda Lyons (Steve), Tonya Mayfield (David); brother-in-law, Chuck Tucker; nephews, nieces, cousins and a multitude of friends and also, Sassy, his faithful companion that loved to sit in his lap and purr when he watched TV.
Steve met the love of his life in 1967 and they were married December 13, 1969, after he completed basic training and infantry training in the U. S. Army. They were married 53 years and 356 days. After 3 weeks of marriage, Steve was sent to Vietnam for 11 months. Upon returning, Steve and Lana resided in Kansas for the remainder of his service. Steve was Honorably Discharged from the service after 3 years of service.
When Steve and Lana returned to Longview, he started back to work at USI Axelson and worked there for 10 years. Then he was employed at Texas Utilities Mining Company, later changed to Luminant Mining, where he worked for 33 years before his retirement. He was a heavy equipment operator, and he loved his job and all of his coworkers. He always said it was fun going to work.
Steve loved to fish, hunt and ride motorcycles, but life changed for Steve when after 16 years of marriage, he and Lana had a precious daughter born with special needs. He was a devoted dad to his “Little Butterfly” and took changes in his life in stride.
Steve was ordained a Deacon at Northside Baptist Church and was a member there until moving membership to Woodland Hills Baptist Church where he has served faithfully until his death.
Steve was also, a member of the Christian Motorcycle Association Gospel Riders #126, NRA Patriot Lifetime, East Texas Rifle and Pistol Club, Ducks Unlimited, HOG, and Lake Cherokee Fishing Club.
Steve was preceded in death by his father and mother; paternal grandparents; maternal grandparents, Bill and Minnie Smith; brother, Bert Snider; sister, Kathy Ballard; father and mother-in-law, Tiny and Nell Tucker and sister-in-law, Fran Tucker.
Services for Steve will be 2 pm Thursday, December 14, 2023, at Woodland Hills Baptist Church, 2105 E Loop 281, Longview, TX 75605. Visitation will begin at 1 pm with service to follow. Burial will be at Memory Park, Longview, TX under direction of Rader Funeral Home.
