Spiro S. Mijalis
Funeral services for Spiro S. Mijalis, 72, of Longview will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 27, 2010 in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home of Longview with Father Brendan Pelphrey officiating. Burial will follow in Rosewood Park. He passed away, Saturday, July 24, at his residence.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Mr. Mijalis was born May 6, 1938 in Shreveport, LA to Sam A. and Evangeline Mijalis. He attended Byrd High School in Shreveport and graduated from Texas A & M with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army. Mr. Mijalis was a partner in the Farmer's Seafood Co. in Shreveport before moving to Longview in 1972, when he became owner and operator of The Fisherman's Market and The Butcher Shop and various other business ventures in Longview.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Miles Mijalis.
Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter-in-law, Mary Mijalis; grandchildren, Mariah Mijalis, Sammy Mijalis and Spiro Mijalis; brothers, Alex S. Mijalis and wife Mary and Gus S. Mijalis and wife Stacy; sister, Alice Mijalis Stravolemos and husband Emanuel; nephews, Sammy A. Mijalis, John A. Mijalis and Jimmy A. Mijalis; niece, Patti Robertson; and good friend and business associate, George Moody.
Pallbearers will be Dr. Chris S. Cosse, Chris Booras, Alexander J. Mijalis, Robert McDonald, Andrew J. Mijalis, Dean J. Mijalis, Sydney McWhorter and Rodney Vaughn. Honorary pallbearers will be George W. Moody, Polly McDonald, Gary Britain, John G. Cosse, Dr. James G. Cosse, Dr. Spiro G. Cosse and Wayne Taylor.
