Sarah Shugart Bridges' Obituary
Funeral services for Sarah Shugart Bridges, 74, of Longview will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 24, 2014 in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home of Longview with Pastor David English officiating. Burial will follow at Rosewood Park Mausoleum. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at the funeral home.
She passed away, Friday September 19, 2014, in Longview.
Sarah was born May 2, 1940, in El Dorado, AR to Ray and Bess Shugart and had been a 46 year resident of Longview. She graduated from El Dorado High School in 1958 and earned her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Henderson State University in 1962. In 1982, she completed her Masters in Elementary Education from Stephen F. Austin State University, and later earned two additional administrative supervision and mid-management certifications. During her 27 years as an educator and administrator, she served as lead science teacher K-6 for 5 campuses at Pine Tree ISD and later became the elementary curriculum coordinator for the district. The last seven years of her career she served as principal of Mozelle Johnson Elementary School before retiring in 2002.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 31 years, Thomas E. Bridges.
She is survived by her daughter, Traci Bridges of Dallas; son and daughter-in- law, Mark and Deena Bridges of Houston; a brother, Ray Marshall Shurgart of Alvin; and three granddaughters, Kayla, Lauren, and Caroline Bridges of Houston.
