Ronald Lee Nichols' Obituary
Funeral services for Ronnie Nichols, 62, of Longview will be held at 4:00 P.M. Monday afternoon, May 7, 2007, in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home of Longview, 1817 Judson Road, Longview, Texas, with the Reverend Tom Roberson officiating. Burial will follow in Lakeview Cemetery in Longview.
There will be a time of visitation at 3:00 P.M. just before the funeral service.
Ronnie Nichols was born on September 15, 1944, in Longview, Texas to Coy and Minnie Nichols. He passed away at his residence in Longview on Friday, May 04, 2007, from an illness of the last 3 years.
Ronnie had been a resident of Longview for most of his life where he attended Pine Tree Schools. He was very active in sports in and out of school. He was a valuable member of the Pine Tree High School football, baseball and basketball teams. In the late 60?s and early 70?s Ronnie was honored as an outstanding coach in the Longview Boys Baseball League, leading his teams to become champions. He had a great passion for doing all he could to help young boys seek their potential in the game of baseball.
He was also a coach in the Little League Football program and helped give Hosea Taylor, also from Longview, his early start in football as a pro player.
Ronnie proudly served his country in the U. S. Navy aboard the USS Constellation, receiving an honorable discharge.
Mr. Nichols was a first class machinist by profession working for LTV of Longview for nearly 20 years before the Longview plant was closed. He later was associated with Rushing Machine Shop of White Oak.
Ronnie was preceded in death by his parents.
Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Robbie Lee Nichols, of Winona, Texas, two daughters, Jennifer Kelley and husband Rory of Longview, Texas, Brandee Michelle Davenport and husband Danny of Fort Worth, Texas, one granddaughter, DeLaney Elisa Davenport, also of Fort Worth, Texas, one grandson, Ray Neal Shadowens. Jr, of Buffalo, N. Y. His three sisters, Marie Keith, Carolyn Gay and husband Charles, Janiece Baldwin and husband, Bob all of Longview, Texas, two aunts, one uncle and several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
Serving as Pallbearers are: James Castleberry, John Castleberry, Aaron McKenzie, Joey Dawes, Don Dillard and Leon Rushing.
