Roland "Pat" Garrett's Obituary
Funeral services for Roland "Pat" Garrett, 80, of Longview, will be noon Saturday, December 18th at Greggton United Methodist Church with Reverends Lynne Settlemyre, Emmitt Barrow , and Ray Biggerstaff officiating. Interment will follow at Rosewood Park Cemetery under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview.
Mr. Garrett died Wednesday at a local hospital following a sudden illness.
He was born May 14, 1924 at Mansfield, Louisiana to Lawrence P. and Gertrude Morris Garrett. A former resident of Shreveport, Mr. Garrett had resided in Longview since the mid-1950's. He was retired, after 34 years, from the Texas Highway Department as an engineering associate and while living in Shreveport, he taught school and later taught science and coached girl's basketball in Bandera, Texas. Mr. Garrett was a member of Greggton United Methodist Church and had served in the U. S. Marine Corps.
He was an enthusiastic supporter and fan of high school and college sports programs. He was especially
fond of supporting the athletic activities at Pine Tree High School and Kilgore College. Mr. Garrett loved being outdoors and enjoyed being at his farm in Pritchett.
He is survived by his wife, Jo Ann of Longview; his daughter and son-in-law, Wanda and Ray Biggerstaff of Leander, Texas; his son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Patti Garrett of Atlanta, Georgia; step-children and their spouses; Gena and John Patterson of Kilgore, Rhonda and Ron Romack of Ruidosa, New Mexico, Randy and Becky Milford of Longview; 11 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren; brother, Rex Kelly of Longview. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Novella Garrett in 1990.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home, Friday evening, from 6 until 8 PM.
