Roger William Johnson's Obituary
Funeral services for Roger W. Johnson, 80, of Longview, will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 26, 2011 at Mobberly Baptist Church with Dr. Laney Johnson and Scott Schulik officiating. Celebration through music will be led by Dale Perkins. Burial will follow in Rosewood Park under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview.
Mr. Johnson was born June 14, 1931, in Douglass, TX to Joe and Lucy Rogers Johnson. Surrounded by his loving family, he went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Monday evening, August 22, 2011, at Summer Meadows Nursing Home.
A Longview resident since 1957, he retired after 35 years as a manager with the Internal Revenue Service. Following retirement from the IRS, he continued employment through his private tax consulting business. He was an active member of both the Lions and Rotary clubs as well as the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. Mr. Johnson was a member of Mobberly Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School and was a deacon for many years. During his final days, he was awarded the distinction of "Deacon Emeritus" from a grateful Mobberly family in recognition of his work and loyal service. He was also a veteran of the U. S. Air Force.
A loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Mr Johnson was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Dorothy Helen Johnson, his infant son, Roger Hubbard Johnson, his parents and two brothers, Joe Emmitt and Gene Ted Johnson.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Mildred O. Johnson of Longview; daughters and sons-in-law, Connie Johnson Shaver and Dennis of Baton Rouge, LA; Kimberly Johnson Woodfin and Mark of Marshall; son, Roger Gregory Johnson and Lesley of Longview; grandchildren, Dale Shaver, Lindsay Shaver Ramirez and husband Alex, Hilary Woodfin Plemmons and husband Kevin, Michael Woodfin and wife Erin, Will Woodfin, Allen Johnson, Ashley Johnson Sieger and husband Brian and Hubbard G. Johnson; and three great-grandchildren, Carson Plemmons, Brielle Johnson and Kaydense Sieger.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Thursday at Rader Funeral Home in Longview. For those desiring to do so, memorial contributions may be made to Mobberly Baptist Church Building Fund, 625 E. Loop 281, Longview, TX 75605.
