Robert “Bob” Lee Cearley, Sr.
Celebration of Life services for Robert “Bob” Lee Cearley, Sr., will be held Saturday, January 23, 2016 at the First Christian Church, Longview, TX at 11:00 a.m. with Dr. Richard Emerson officiating under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview. Dr. Cearley was born August 29, 1930, in Hugo, OK and died on January 16, 2016, in Longview, TX.
He graduated from Hugo High School in 1949, where he was a star football player. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1951, after serving many years in the National Guard. He received his Teaching Degree from Southeastern State College in Durant, OK. He also attended Perkins School of Divinity at SMU, earning the Master of Divinity and later earning his Doctorate in Counseling. Bob was ordained to the Christian Ministry by the Laying on of Hands at Central Christian Church of Hobbs, NM. After moving back to Texas, Bob taught school, coached, and served many years preaching in part-time and full-time positions.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Nancy Poling Cearley of Paris, TX. They reared three children. Two daughters, Susan Cearley Gregory of Paris, TX and Carol Cearley Cabbiness of Austin, TX; 8 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. His son, Robert Lee Cearley, Jr. preceded him in death.
After retiring, Dr. Cearley became a member of First Christian Church of Longview where he sang in the choir, and was a member of the Cornerstone Class and The Prayer Group.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be given to the Music Ministry of First Christian Church, 720 N. Sixth Street, Longview, TX 75601.
