Randy, Mike Byrd and I spent most of our elementary grade years in the same neighborhood on the East side of Daingerfield. We played football on the vacant lot nearby and climbed trees in front of Randy’s home, watching the cars and trucks pass below us on the old Hughes Springs highway. We had fun building pine tree needle forts nearby and racing our bicycles. Randy’s Mom was our Cub Scout leader who introduced me to delicious fried bananas.
Randy’s dad owned the local Ford dealership and I remember getting to ride shotgun in Randy’s brand new Mustang. What a treat!
The last time Randy and I had lunch together was at Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen in Grapevine. We had a great visit. That was several year’s ago.
There are many more cherished memories, too many to share here. Those memories really do seem like yesterday….time passes so quickly.
Although I will not be able to attend the services this Saturday….we’re now living in Post Falls, Idaho…I will be there in spirit. Randy was a dear friend (brother), a good trustworthy man, and I will miss him greatly.
