Ramiro Roel DeLeon Sr.'s Obituary
Ramiro Roel DeLeon, 79, of Longview Texas, Died March 13, 2015, with his family by his side. Ramiro was born in Montemorelos, Mexico on March, 29, 1936. He married Hilda Yolanda Aranda on November 16, 1971. They lived in Dallas Texas for 10 years before relocating to Longview Texas where he resided for 36 years. Ramiro Roel was loved and respected by his family and all who knew him. Ramiro immigrated to the United States at the age of 36. With an old suitcase and aspirations of starting his own business and a new life he chose the food industry as his passion. He worked at the El Chico commissary in Dallas Texas and was able to rise very fast and become a key member of the El Chico organization. Although he had limited English skills his work ethic, integrity and character that defined him his whole life was evident to all who worked with him and ultimately became invaluable to the Cuellar family. In 1980 much to his disappointment the commissary was sold along with the restaurants and was forced to look elsewhere to support his young family. Disappointed but not discouraged he moved to Longview Texas at the urging of his brother in law Lupe Mancha who he himself had started his own venture in the restaurant business and had become a successful and respected restaurateur r not only in Longview but in East Texas. The idea was to make tortillas and service local restaurants and maybe a little more just enough to support his family. In 1982 he incorporated a company he called La Fama Foods. Although he had relatively no experience in starting a company he worked hard as only he knew how to do and was able to make friends along the way that up to his death had asked about them. The list is not long but he valued his friends and relationships as much as his family. I believe those friends know who they are and know how important they were to him whether a CPA a banker a plumber or an electrician he respected each and every one and loved them. Today his company La Fama Foods is operated by his family and friends. Ramiro is survived by 10 children: Ramiro Roel, of Mexico; Irma Guerra, of Mexico; Thomas Roel, of Longview; Carmen Roel, of Austin; Rafael Roel, of Houston; Kenny Bocanegra,of Austin; Sandra Serrano, of Longview; Ramiro ROel Jr, of Houston; Raul Roel, of Longview; Reggie Roel of Longview. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
A Rosary will be recited at 10 AM Tuesday, March 17, 2015 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30.
