Quentin Phipps' Obituary
Quentin Alden Phipps, 78, of Longview, Texas met his savior at Margaret's House on October 22, 2009 at 9:27 a.m. after a long and courageous battle with lung cancer.
Mr. Phipps was born June 10, 1931 to Robert Alden and Ruth Irene Phipps in Mitchell, South Dakota. He was an Army/Air Force Corpman for 5 years and then transferred to the Navy. He retired from the Navy on July 2, 1969 after serving 15 years. He was a Vietnam Veteran, and received his degree in Diesel Mechanics after retiring from the Navy. He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert Alden Phipps and Ruth Irene Stickler and two sisters, Gracie Ferber and Eda Nelson.
He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Hattie Phipps of Longview, Texas; son Lotis Ray and Donna Phipps of Longview, Texas; three daughters, Diana and Larry Benson of Midland, Texas; Carla and Don Pilkington of Bonneau, South Carolina; and Ramona and Brian O'Neil of Williamsburg, Virginia; 10 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; sister, Betty Ratsch of Kent, Washington; two brothers, Richard Phipps of Carrol, Iowa, and Loren and Rhoda Phipps of Marshall Saskatchewan, Canada, and several nieces and nephews.
Services for Quentin Alden Phipps will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 26, 2009 at the Winterfield United Methodist Church with Reverend Rita Simms officiating. Burial will follow at Rosewood Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Rader Funeral Home from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 25, 2009.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 906, Longview, Texas 75601.
