Internment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Arrangements are made under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview. There will be visitation at Rader Funeral home from 6:00 to 8:00 Sunday evening, April 12. This happy spirit and contented soul departed this earth on Friday April 10, 2009.
Patricia was born in Healdton, OK , on September 17, 1930 to Mr. and Mrs. Olynn James McCarty. She lived most of her childhood in Ardmore, OK. Her Christian home was the center of activity for her childhood friends, many of whom remain close to her today. After graduating from Ardmore High School, she spent her first two years of college at Oklahoma Baptist University before transferring to Baylor University where she graduated with an education degree in 1952. She was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. She was recognized for her external beauty at OBU and Baylor. Those who know her best know that this paled in comparison to her internal beauty defined by her unbending Christian faith.
Pat and Neil Marshall were married in August of 1953. They have three children: Kathleen Elizabeth, Kevin Neil and William Olynn. She made a career of being the kind of mother who taught her children to respect others, work toward goals and love unconditionally. Seeing her three children graduate from Baylor University were among her proudest moments.
This adored wife, beloved mother and cherished grandmother was an accomplished elementary school teacher in Waco, Galveston and Fort Worth. After seeing her husband through medical school, she retired to devote her life to rearing her children and care for her husband. The Marshalls moved to Longview 50 years ago where they have been members of the First Baptist Church. Patricia was a founding member of the Longview Story League, a board member of the Longview Museum of Art, a member of the Junior League of Longview and president of Gregg County Medical Auxiliary. She was president of the East Texas Angus Auxiliary and the Texas Angus Auxiliary.
Patricia is survived by her husband, Dr. B. Neil Marshall of Longview. Their three children and spouses: Kathy and Mike Baker of Longview, Kevin and Kay Marshall of Dallas, Olynn and Debbie Marshall of Yorba Linda, California; ten grandchildren; her sister Wanda Jeanne Skinner of Altus, OK and numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Laura Blanche Jackson Lectureship of Baylor University.
