Nora "Colleen" Hustead's Obituary
Nora “Colleen” Hustead, 86, of White Oak, passed away on September 26, 2015 after a brief illness. She was born November 26, 1929 in Creek County, Oilton, Oklahoma to Carl W. Nagle and Vera Hobgood Nagle, deceased. She spent her early childhood in McCamey, Texas then moving to White Oak where she graduated as the Salutatorian of her 1947 White Oak High School graduating class. She received a Scholarship Certificate Award from the Texas Council of Church-Related Colleges. She later graduated from Kilgore College in 1949. Colleen enjoyed a very successful career with Axelson later Halliburton which enabled her to enjoy a long and fruitful retirement.
Colleen is a longtime resident of White Oak, living here over 70 years. She was preceded in death by Bob, her devoted husband of 56 years, her parents Carl and Vera Nagel, and two sisters-in-law Joan Wilson and Jimmie Hagler both formerly of Longview. She is survived by several nieces and nephews which include Wayne Hagler, Vicki Downing, Linda Sweaks, Carole Black and Larry Wilson all of Longview; Sharon Pierce of Tyler, Pam Brewer of Forney, and Sheila Burke of Plano. She was also preceded in death by a precious gift of God very early in life, her niece Sondra Kaye Hagler.
Colleen loved her friends and family well. Her generosity was demonstrated by supporting ministries and charities benefitting her fellow man. Her passion for her pets and the well-being of all animals was drawn from a childhood where she enjoyed her very special horse “Paint” immensely as revealed in precious photos and stories of a happy childhood. She gave generously supporting animal rescue charities financially through her final days. She earlier served as an honorary director of the Smith County Humane Society where her generous donations initiated the funding of a sun room for cats which was then dedicated to Colleen’s mother.
Colleen’s family wishes to give a special thanks to her dear friends whose company, support and caring heart she always enjoyed. The family also wishes to express heartfelt appreciation to her neighbors who have been kind to check on her often and spend time supporting her needs.
Graveside services for Colleen will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 10, 2015, at Lakeview Memorial Gardens Cemetery at 5000 W. Harrison Road. Visitation will be immediately following the service on site. Memorial contributions may be given to the Salvation Army or the animal rescue of their choice.
