Newton Benham, my big brother, was an amazing man with a heart that knew no bounds when it came to caring for and helping his fellow man. His love and generosity absolutely knew no bounds. Before he reached his teenage years, he saved his younger sister Bonnie who had gotten caught up in a riptide on the Texas coast. Newt loved playing tricks on Bonnie, but she definitely returned as much as she got. He loved fireworks and would chase his younger siblings relentlessly with sparklers. Dad taught Newt all about guns and turned him into an avid hunter. He and my little brother Steven had a wonderfully close relationship and enjoyed hunting together for years.
Newt went full-bore on any subject he was interested in. His God, his wife and his children and grandchildren all being a very strong number one.
We will miss you, my brother.
I think Vince Gill said it best: Go rest high on that mountain. Your work on earth is done. Go to Heaven a-shount’n love for the Father and the Son.
