Dr. Morgan Moses' Obituary
Dr. Morgan Moses, 88, of Longview passed away of natural causes on April 17, 2014.
Morgan was born in Abernathy, Texas on February 14, 1926. After losing his father at an early age, he attended school and lived at the Masonic Home and School in Fort Worth, Texas. He graduated from Waxahachie High School in 1943. He then entered military service on January 25, 1944 and served in the Army Air Force as a radio/radar operator and flight gunner with the 404 Bomb Group and the 58th Fighter Command in the Aleutian Islands.
Morgan attended North Texas State University where he received a Bachelor of Science degree, master’s degree and a doctorate degree in education. While attending North Texas State University, Morgan met and married his faithful wife of 64 years, Mary Francis Franklin, who preceded him in death.
The education of students and adults was Morgan’s lifelong passion. He served as a teacher, coach and principal in the Judson school district, followed by a tenure as high school principal at Garland High School in Garland, Texas. He then served as professor and department chair with his higher education service culminating with his being named Professor Emeritus at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas.
After retiring from Stephen F. Austin State University, he worked for the Southern Association of Schools, served as a second appraiser for many East Texas school districts and assisted school districts with superintendent searches. Morgan had a gift for remembering names of students he had taught or knew. He felt honored to know so many educators across Texas and was always pleased to assist them with their professional growth.
Morgan is survived by two sons and their wives, Mike and Debi Moses of Dallas, Texas and Monte and Kathy Moses of Englewood, Colorado, nephew, Jim Eberle and wife Wendy of Los Angeles, California, and niece, Donna Hagan and her husband, Mike, of Cypress, Texas.
The joy of Morgan’s life was his grandchildren, Mitchell Moses, Mason Moses, Megan Moses, Kaitlin Eberle Davis-Herber, and Luke Eberle as well as his great grandsons, Miles and Parker Moses and Seth Eberle Davis-Herber.
Morgan is survived by three sisters, Marguerite, Mary and Laverne, one brother, Travis, numerous nieces and nephews and special friend, Sandra Field.

Graveside service will be held at the Center Cemetery near Tyler, Texas, at 10:30 am on Monday, April 21, 2014 and will be conducted by Rev. John Bingham of First Methodist Church Nacogdoches, Texas.
The cemetery is located off Interstate 20, turning on Highway 155 toward Tyler going about 1 mile and turning right on County Road 334. The Center Cemetery is approximately 1.25 miles on the left.
