Mildred E Lane's Obituary
Mildred E. Lane
Mildred E. Lane, 88, passed away on March 13, 2014 after a brief illness. She was born in Johnson City, Tennessee on May 10, 1925 to Nellie Lawhon Waters and Harry C. Waters.
Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, John S. Lane, parents Harry and Nellie Waters, sisters Margaret Henderson and Edith King, brother Earl Waters, and sister-in-law Maxine Sensabaugh.
She is survived by her children, Martha McKinley (Jim), Barbara Lane, Bill Lane, and Mike Lane. She is also survived by her brother Eugene Waters and wife Betty of Oak Ridge, Tennessee, and sister-in-law Virginia Larkin of Grantville, Kansas. “Gram” was beloved by grandchildren Kelly Steidley (Tonya), Karyn Cooper (Gene), Kasey McCollum (Casey), Ashley Anderson (John), Brittany Lane, Jack McKinley (Brigette), and Ronnie McKinley. Her ten great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews were always glad to visit with her. Our Mother was an excellent cook; she was renowned for her spaghetti and chocolate pie!
Mildred was a longtime member of Longview First Assembly of God Church. Her roots there began when the church was located at the corner of Highway 80 and Fourth Street. She was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Lodge and held a Beautiful Rebekah Degree. Mom joined the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #831 in Gladewater and transferred her membership to the Gilmer Chapter #355 when the chapters merged.
Her children are fortunate to have a hand-pieced quilt made especially for each of them as a remembrance of her love and as a testimony to her skill with fabric. Mom always liked a good joke and loved telling them to her nieces on the phone. She taught herself to play the piano and loved Gospel music. She was a great fan of the game of Bingo.
We are so thankful to her good friend, Barbara Biggs, for her enduring friendship, concern, and watch care of our Mom. Mom loved riding home from church in her convertible!
Services for Mildred will be held at Rader Funeral Home in Longview, Wednesday, March 19, at 1:00 P.M. with graveside service to follow at Memory Park Cemetery. There will be a time of visitation at the funeral home the night before services, Tuesday, March 18, 2014 from 6pm-8pm.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Humane Society of Humane Society of NE Texas 303 Enterprise St Longview, TX 75604 or Texas Star Rescue, 749 Etheredge Rd. Longview, TX 75602
