Mildred Pauline Stanley Brooks' Obituary
Mildred Pauline Stanley Brooks, age 88, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 1, 2017, at Treviso Transitional Care due to heart related issues.
Mildred, or “Millie Paula”, as some called her, was born on June 11, 1928, in Amarillo, Texas to Hershal and Gracie Hutcheson. Mildred attended Longview schools & graduated as a loyal Lobo in 1945.
Life at home was never dull for Mildred as she had ten sisters and two brothers to share secrets, successes, tears and dreams.
Raising her three boys with her husband love of her life, Eddie, was top priority for Mildred, and at the heart of that was good food. Just as Mildred’s home was full of beautiful ivy & African Violets, her garden was full of tasty vegetables that found their way to her table. She was known far and wide for her homemade rolls and pies. Another pastime that often escalated to marathon status was the never-ending Skip Bo, Uno and “42” games. Mildred spent many hours enjoying a game with her mother, brothers, sisters, and friends.
Mildred was a founding member of Trinity Baptist Church. Teaching Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and over 50 years as Child Evangelism her unbounded joy. Mildred loved teaching little children, and above all, she loved her Savior. With her flannel boards and fun activities, she was able to teach little ones the Christian way of life that she held so dear.
Mildred is preceded in death by her mother and father: husband, Eddie Stanley and her late partner in life, J.D. Brooks; as well as sisters, Anna Beard, Helen Smith and Carolyn Tanner. Left to share her memory are her three sons and daughters-in-law, Paul and Joy Stanley, Robin and Cyndy Stanley, and Tommy and Debbie Stanley; grandchildren, Christopher Stanley, Cody Stanley, Sarah Godfrey, and Jerod Stanley; brothers, Hershal Hutcheson and William Hutcheson; sisters, Mary Theis, Joyce Williams, Laura Betts, Sue Boyd, Janie Franklin, Gail Reed, and June Stephens. Mildred also leaves behind numerous relatives and dear friends.
Family visitation will be held at Rader Funeral Home Friday, March 3, 2017, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Trinity Baptist Church in Lakeport on Saturday, March 4, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. A brief graveside service will follow at Lakeview Memorial Garden Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials be made to Child Evangelism Fellowship. http://www.cefonline.com.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at Treviso Transitional Care and Heart to Heart Hospice for their care, compassion, and support in her final days.
