Michael "Mike" Smotherman's Obituary
Funeral services for Glen Michael “Mike” Smotherman will be held on Thursday March 26, 2015 at 12:00 noon at New Beginnings Baptist Church with Pastor Todd Kountz Pastor officiating., where Mike was a member, will officiate. A visitation will be held the night before between 6 and 8pm at Rader Funeral Home.
Mike was born on January 10, 1946 to J. E. “Bill” Smotherman and Ruth Bullard in Tyler, Texas where he attended school and graduated from John ‘Tyler High School in 1964.
Mike was an avid sportsman if he wasn’t working you would probably find him hunting or fishing. He especially loved fishing with his grandson, Timothy. He was a member of the Cherokee Bass Club, the Tyler Bass Club, the Rotary and NRA. Mike was a member of New Beginnings Baptist Church.
Mike not only loved hunting and fishing but he also loved landscaping. He owned Smotherman Scenery for over 39 years and was known through-out East Texas for his landscaping designs and if you needed a plant or tree that you could not locate anywhere else, Smotherman’s would usually have it.
Mike loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife Barbara Elizabeth Smotherman of Longview, daughter Glenna Neff of Longview, granddaughter Jennifer Francis and husband, Eric of Yukon, Oklahoma, Katrina Neff of Longview, great grandchildren, Lea Neff of Longview Timothy Wynn of Pasadena, Aidyn Francis of Yukon, Oklahoma, Nicki Rawls, step-daughter Angela Cooper of Longview, step daughter Lisa Smyth of Dallas, step-grand-son, Jason Rawls, step-granddaughter Sarah Flores of Dallas, step-great grandchildren, Jayla, Jaslyn and Jaydence Rawls all of Longview. He is survived by his brother Larry Smotherman and wife, Gloria of Whitehouse and brother Kenny Smotherman and wife, Carolyn of North Dakota. He is also survived by his sister and brother in-laws, Judy and husband Mike Templeton of Georgetown, TX; and Sarah and Bill Voss of Lufkin, TX. Along with many nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, grandson Jacob Flores and great granddaughter Jayden Rawls.
