Melva Ruth Singley's Obituary
Funeral services for Melva Singley, 81, of Longview, will be at 12:00 P.M., Saturday, January 23, 2010, at Valley View Baptist Church, 1602 Alpine, Longview, Texas with Rev. Bill Hardage and Bro. Tim Lindsay officiating. Burial will follow at Gum Springs Cemetery for family only under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview. Mrs. Singley died in her sleep Sunday, January 17, 2010, in Longview.
She was born February 2, 1928, in Longview, Texas, to William Dalton Reynolds and Lilla Emma Grimes Reynolds. She married Joseph Grady Singley on June 17, 1944, in Longview, Texas.
Mrs. Singley was a wife and homemaker who also loved planting and caring for all kinds of flowers and shrubs. She really had a green thumb, and many people came to her for cuttings from her garden. For more than 40 years she was a faithful member of Valley View Baptist Church together with her husband.
She is survived by her children and their spouses, Phillip and Mel Singley of Longview, Paula and Ronnie Hendrix of Hallsville, and Elaine and David Lloyd of Riga, Latvia; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; brothers Bronson Reynolds of Texarkana, Texas and Robert Reynolds, and sister, Wilma Wright of Gilmer, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Singley was preceded in death after 61 years of marriage by her husband, Grady Singley; daughter, Leola Dianne; grandson, Matthew Hendrix; and sister, Allie Jones.
The family will receive friends at the Rader Funeral Home, 1617 Judson Road, Longview, Texas on Friday, January 22, 2010, from 6:00-8:00 p.m.
