Maurice Dempsey Jones
Maurice Dempsey Jones went to be with his Savior on December 9, 2013. Maurice was born July 19, 1926 in White Oak, TX to Charles Floyd and Effie Jane Jones and was the second of three children. Maurice accepted Jesus as his personal Lord and Savior at the age of 10. He graduated from Hallsville High School in 1943. Maurice served our country from 1944-1946 in the Seabees during WWII where he helped build airstrips on the Island of Tinian in the Mariana Islands. After returning from the war he played minor league baseball for the Alexandria Aces in 1946. On October 15, 1949 he married Dorothy Evelyn Pool in Hallsville and they were later blessed with three children. Maurice worked for Eastman in Longview from 1951-1981.
Maurice is survived by his bride of 64 years, Evelyn Pool Jones of Hallsville; daughter and son-in-law, Jolene and Gary Morrison of Hallsville; son and daughter-in-law, Stanley and Kim Jones of Hallsville, son and daughter-in-law, Charlie and Bonnie Jones of Hallsville; seven grandchildren, Andy Morrison of Royce City, Emily Baur of San Antonio, Ashley Chambers of Nashville, TN, Nathan Jones of Hallsville, Julie Williams of Santa Fe, NM, Brian Jones of Pullman, WA and Benjamin Jones of College Station; three great grandchildren, Roxy and Valery Morrison and Garrett Baur; three sister-in-laws; Fannie Jones of Longview, Mildred Blalock of Hallsville, Virgie Pool of Hallsville and numerous nieces and nephews.
Maurice was a man of great faith who was devoted to serving the Lord and caring for and loving his family. He was generous and would do anything for anyone. He was a man of his word and stood strong in his walk with Christ. He and Evelyn have been active members of First Baptist Church of Hallsville since the early 1940’s where he served as a deacon since 1960. Throughout his life, Maurice enjoyed fishing, hunting, baseball, and gardening. Maurice will always be remembered as a remarkable husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend who has had an incredible impact on countless lives.
Services will be held Thursday, December 12, 2013 at the First Baptist Church in Hallsville at 2:00 pm; visitation preceding services from 1:00 -1:45 in the Sanctuary.
