Marvin Quinn's Obituary
A memorial service for Marvin Quinn, 99, will be held on Saturday, April 23, at 12:00 at Mobberly Baptist Church with Rev. Scott Schulik officiating. Mr. Quinn died Thursday, April 21, in a Longview nursing home.
Marvin was born to Linn and Emmer Brown Quinn on July 17, 1911, in Glencoe, Alabama. He attended public schools in Glencoe and Calhoon County, Alabama.
Marvin married Thelma Street on November 7, 1931, and they were happily married for over 66 years when Thelma passed away in 1998. Marvin was a devoted husband and always took excellent care of Thelma. He was a steel worker from 1935 to 1974. He worked in steel mills in Gadsden, Birmingham and Glencoe, Alabama, Gary, Indiana, and Chicago, Illinois, before moving to Ore City, Texas in 1953 when he went to work for Lone Star Steel. In 1977, Marvin and Thelma moved to Longview, where he is a member of Mobberly Baptist Church.
Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his grandson Bryan Quinn, his son Randy Quinn, his daughter Nancy Quinn Whyte, and daughter-in-law Rebecca Pyland Quinn. Also preceding him in death were his brothers Ed Quinn, Roscoe Quinn, Delmer Quinn, and Willard Quinn and his sisters Gertie Quinn Ledbetter, Patty Quinn Welch, and Bessie Quinn Dunn.
Marvin?s family was very precious to him. He is survived by his daughter Judy Quinn Childress and his son Tom Butch Quinn and his wife Anita, all of Longview. ?Granddaddy? loved his grandchildren, and he was proud of them. Grandchildren are Toni Childress and Bret Childress, both of Longview; Dana Fowler Lindley of Poolville; Ricky Fowler of Diana; Sharon Fowler Frasier of Georgia; Kevin Quinn of Lantana; Renee Quinn Smith and Charles Quinn of Royse City; Chad Quinn of Hallsville and Michele Quinn of Greenville. Mr. Quinn is also survived by 19 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
Interment will be in Memory Park at a family graveside service prior to the memorial service. Services are under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview. Memorial gifts may be made to Because I Care, P. O. Box 6525, Longview, TX, 75608.
