Margaret Jordan's Obituary
Margaret Pearl Ware Jordan
“But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure and full of quiet gentleness…” James 3:17
Margaret Jordan gently and quietly went home to be with her loving Lord, March 16, 2015 surrounded by her son Gene Jordan, Jr. and sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Errol Freeman. Celebration of life service will be Thursday, March 19th at 11 AM in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church. Officiants Dr. Cary Hilliard and Dr. Tom Webster. Family visitation will follow the service.
Margaret was born to Carl Clifton and Lottie Mae Ware on December 9, 1924 in Dallas, Texas. One of six children, Margaret began her banking career in 1941 at the First National Bank in Dallas, Texas. Early in 1946 she worked with a man at the bank by the name of Gene Jordan. She invited him to a church social, they dated and married October 12, 1947. She and Gene moved to Longview later that year and she continued her banking career with First National Bank of Longview.
Margaret was on of the first females to be named an officer with the title assistant Vice President. She often praised her mentors C. A. Loftis, R. L. Dickerson, Seymour Waggoner, Gene Matthews and Mack L. Childers. Margaret served the customers as teller and new accounts representative. She retired in 1984. Her banking career transitioned to Texas Bank and Trust working part-time in the Bookkeeping Department. She loved her new banking friends, Rogers Pope, Sr. and the late Hazel Hickey and Jo Lloyd, and a special love for friends Maurita Myers, Brenda Dumas, Valorie Peoples and Bertha Armstrong. Her gentleness but quick-wit soon let them know how much she loved serving the bank’s customers while having a good tome with co-workers. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Gene Jordan, Sr., sister, Sue Towne, brothers, William Ware and Clifton Ware, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Billy Joe and Charlene Jordan, brother-in-law, James Richey and sister-in-law, Nell Crawford.
She is survived by her son, Gene Jordan, Jr., special friend, Cindy Jordan, grandsons, Chris and wife Kimberly and Taylor Jordan; sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Errol Freeman; sister, Lottie Whitaker; sister-in-law, Louise Richey; great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews;
Gene wishes to thank the staff of Highland Pines and Compass Hospice for the gentle and loving care of his mother.
