Major Clark Sexton's Obituary
A celebration of Clark Sexton's life will be held Thursday, September 25th at 10 AM at Woodland Hills Baptist Church in Longview, Texas, where he was an active member and served as Minister of Outreach. Interment will be in Rosewood Park under the direction of Rader Funeral Home. Clark was born May 15, 1938 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and was taken home to be with the Lord on September 21, 2025. He was preceded in death by his father, Glenn Sexton, mother, Jean L. Sexton, brother, H.L. Sexton, great-granddaughter, Ruthie Lou Galvan, and son-in-law, Keith Sobczak.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Marilyn. daughter, Meredith Sobczak of Williamsburg, VA, son, Scott and wife, Estera of Longview, son Brian and wife Jenny of Lewisville, TX and daughter, Lora and husband Dale Briley, of San Jose, Costa Rica. He is also survived by grandchildren, Cara (Jeremy) Matt, John (Beth) Briley, Seth (Sarai) Briley, David Briley, Emily Briley, Jared Sexton, Skyler (Jonathan) Galvan, Vlad Sexton, Matei Sexton, Alex (Morgan) Rowell, Caroline (Devin) Sibby, Hannah Sexton, Patrick Sexton, and Liam Sexton and great-grandchildren, Philip, Owen and Lincoln Matt, Levi, Judah, Benjamin, and Abigail Briley. Lydia, Samuel, Abel, and Hope Galvan, Kova and Kenna Sibby, and Olivia Rowell.
After graduating in 1957 from Tulsa Central High School, Clark felt led to enter into the ministry. For a short time, he attended Moody Bible Institute in Chicago. He also attended Piedmont Bible College in North Carolina but received a degree in Christian Education in Sacred Music from Calvary Bible College in Kansas City, Missouri. Bro. Clark served several churches as minister of music in Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas. His service to the Lord also included serving as a Bible Club Director with the Youth For Christ Organization and taught in Christian schools in Tulsa, Jacksonville, Florida and Longview. He also Served as Director of Child Evangelism Fellowship in Florida and in Longview. After being ordained to preach the gospel by Macedonia Baptist Church in 1977, he served as interim pastor of Faith Baptist Church in Gilmer, Texas. In 1986, Bro. Clark was asked to become the Executive Director of the Highway 80 Rescue Mission in Longview and served there until his retirement in 2002.
Throughout the years, Bro. Clark has tried to be a blessing to people with playing his accordion and was a member of the East Texas Accordion Club. Favorite hobbies included driving his 1954 Classic Plymouth around Longview and serving as a tour guide at the East Texas Oil Museum in Kilgore.Texas.
Brother Clark was honored in receiving the "Citizen of the Year" award in 1988 by the Longview Rotary Club, and "Man of the Year" award by the Longview Federation of Business Clubs in 2000. Bro. Clark loved helping people in their time of physical and spiritual need. Many people have come to know the Lord as their savior and thousands of lives have been changed through his 'Rescue Ministry'. He often said that he hoped he'd be remembered as a man who tried to be a part of the solution and not a part of the problem in our society. He asked that in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts be sent to the building fund of Woodland Hills Baptist Church, 2015 East Loop, 281 in Longview, Texas 75605.
