Lola Marie Thorpe's Obituary
Lola Marie (Perry) Thorpe, age 56, surrounded by family and loved ones, peacefully went to be with the Lord, at her home in Longview, Texas on October 5, 2018. She was born June 4, 1962 in an ambulance in front of Carling’s Brewery in Baltimore, Maryland, to James “Jink” and Naomi (Hood) Perry. She worked as a claims processor for Allstate Insurance in and around Baltimore for 19 years and ran a nighttime cleaning business for many years. She was brave, determined, organized, and had a great sense of humor. She was well loved at work and in her family and well known as a practical jokester, she always brought about joy and laughter. She loved her family immensely and could always be counted on to be there physically, mentally, and emotionally for her family. She spent a great deal of time with her niece, Megan Ashley Thorpe, and two nephews Matthew Thomas Perry and Michael Joseph Horn, attending their games, school functions, and being the best “ANT” she possibly could be. She truly loved helping others using her God-given talents. Many of her loved ones benefitted from her amazing organization skills; she loved to help clean and reorganize her family and friend’s homes. Later in life, she made the brave decision to move to Texas to be with her daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren. The move not only enriched her life but the lives of her daughter’s family. Every one of her grandchildren were her “favorite” but she always had a special bond with her oldest grandson, Tristan Anthony McBride. Her daughter’s family couldn’t and wouldn’t want to imagine what life would have been like without her move to Texas. She brought her immense love for family, great sense of humor, and her love of serving others to Texas by helping raise her grandchildren as well as “trying” to teach her daughter her mad organization skills. Unfortunately, she suffered greatly by her debilitating diabetes which later caused renal failure. She made the brave decision to stop dialysis as she was ready to meet God and be with her Dad once again. A strong woman both in Faith and Spirit, one of her final wishes was “Don’t cry for me. We will be together again someday.” She was preceded in death by her brother, Thomas Dorice Perry; and her father, James “Jink” Melvin Perry Sr. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Heather (Thorpe) and Arthur “Len” McBride III; her grandsons, Tristan Anthony and Tyler Alexander McBride; granddaughter, Sterling Jane Caspersen; her mother, Naomi (Hood) Perry; her sister, Carla (Perry) Thorpe; her brother, James Melvin Perry Jr.; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM, Saturday, October 13, 2018 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Longview, Texas. Cremation Interment Service will be held at Glen Haven Memorial Park in Glen Burnie, Maryland, on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at 10 AM. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM at Rader Funeral Home in Longview with a Rosary in the Chapel at Rader at 5:30 PM. The family would like to express sincere thanks to the wonderful staff at Good Shepherd Hospital, DaVita Dialysis, and Heartsway Hospice of Northeast Texas. In lieu of flowers, friends may make memorial contributions in her honor to Heartsway Hospice of Northeast Texas.
