Lois Lorraine Schenk's Obituary
Lois Lorraine Schenk of Paris, Longview, Richardson, Lancaster, Cuero, and Corsicana, Texas joined her beloved husband, Jack, in eternal rest with her Heavenly Father on Saturday, February 9, 2008.
Services will be at 2 PM Wednesday, February 13, 2008 at Winterfield United Methodist Church, 2616 Tryon Road, in Longview with Reverends Rita Sims and Gene Steger officiating, and burial at Rosewood Park in the Garden of Devotion. Services will be under the direction of Rader Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Tuesday, February 12 at the funeral home.
She was born on January 30, 1923, in Corsicana, Texas to Lena and Eldridge Starnes. Lorraine joins her other siblings, Horace Starnes, Doris Wilson, and Louis Starnes in final rest. Growing up in Cuero, Texas, Lorraine met her life's love, Jack L. Schenk, as he completed his Army Air Corps training in the B-17 bomber in the last class of cadets to graduate in Cuero. Lorraine and Jack were married in Altus, Oklahoma, on January 30, 1945, and located to Cincinnati, Ohio soon after Jack left military service. In 1955 the family moved to Texas, first to Lancaster, then to Richardson, and finally to Longview where Jack concluded his career with Rockwell International/Alcatel, Inc. as a pioneer in microwave communications by starting what is now the Alcatel plant in Longview.
Lorraine meanwhile was the consummate Sunday School teacher, teaching about Jesus Christ to over 1, 000 sometimes eager 2nd graders and was rewarded for her efforts by receiving three lifetime memberships in the Methodist Women's Society for Christian Service WSCS in Lancaster, Richardson, and Longview.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her husband Jack in 2001. Survivors include her two sons, Larry Schenk and wife Anita of Paris, Texas, and Jim Schenk and wife Mary Lou of Grand Junction, Colorado; two granddaughters, Liffey Skender and husband Doug, and Ellette Ezzo; grandson, Jack E. Schenk; two special grandchildren, Tabitha Peters Goldman and Kristina Aguirre Gaston and husband Jeff; and five great grandchildren, Haley, Amber, Holden and Chase Skender and Dylan Ezzo. Special family members include Bobby Dishman, Peggy Osborne, Vivian Curry, Elaine Root, Shirley Bass, Nancy Stewart and Carol Caswell.
With a sparkling smile and a love for bright colors and plants Lorraine never met a person she didn't like and rarely met one who didn't like her. She will be remembered forever in the hearts of her family and friends.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Winterfield Methodist Church or The Methodist Children's Home in Waco Texas.
