L.D. "Larry" Mangum
Memorial services for L.D. "Larry" Mangum, 53, of Longview will be held at 4 PM Monday, February 11, 2008 at Oakland Heights Baptist Church with the Reverend Mike Cook. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 PM Sunday, February 10, 2008 in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home of Longview. Mr. Mangum was born on June 26, 1954 in Falfurrias to R.J. and Shirley Mangum. He passed away on February 7, 2008 in a Longview hospital after a courageous battle with melanoma. He was a graduate of Carroll High School in Corpus Christi, received an Associate of Applied Science degree from Delmar Jr. College in Corpus Christi, and a Bachelor's Degree from Corpus Christi State University. He was a member of Oakland Heights Baptist Church and worked for Axelson, Inc. for 19 ½ years. He worked in the field and for sales traveling internationally while living with his family in Dubai, U.A.E. He was later employed by CDI Energy Services of Tyler, Texas as Technical Sales & Service Rep. Mr. Mangum was active in Scouting, having held the Rank of Eagle Scout and was the District Boy Scouts Advancement Chairman. He held awards on the local, state, and national levels including, the District Award of Merit for Cherokee Trace, Silver Beaver, and the James E. West Fellow National Endowment Award. He was also active in the East Texas Football Chapter of TASO, where he was proud to be a "White Hat" referee. He also officiated basketball with the Longview Basketball Association. Mr. Mangum especially enjoyed fishing with his son, Aaron.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Mangum; son, Aaron Mangum; parents; and brother, Mike Mangum.

The family would like to offer special thanks to Dr. Lewis Duncan, Dr. Bill Taylor, Dr. Margaret Schottstaedt and the nurses and staff at Texas Oncology in Longview and Good Shepherd Medical Center as well as express a heart felt "Thank You" to their many friends for your cards and visits.
