Larry Holcomb McGuire's Obituary
Memorial services for Larry Holcomb McGuire, 75, of Longview, will be 10 AM Wednesday at the Longview Christian Fellowship Church with Reverend Henry Emens and Chaplain Jerry Haymes officiating. The family will greet friends at Rader Funeral Home, Longview, Monday, Sept. 14, from 7 to 9 PM.
Mr. McGuire passed away on September 10, 2009 in a local hospital.
Larry Holcomb McGuire was born November 21, 1933 in Shreveport. He was raised in Mt. Pleasant, Texas. He learned the guitar and worked a radio show on a Mt Pleasant station. After serving two years in the US Army during the Korean war, he went to Los Angeles and became an associate at West Lake School of Music. He worked for Louis Prima, Harry James, Peggy Lee and was instrumental in Jimmy Bryant?s composing the theme for Bonanza. He also worked with Prez Prado and Lawrence Welk. When Rock & Roll ?killed? progressive jazz, Larry came back to Texas where he studied computer programming at UT Austin and where he met his wife. He continued his education after marrying and moving to Paris, Texas and finally to Denton. In 1971, he went to work at the Reo Palm Isle and he and Bette moved to Longview.
Not wanting to live in any more big cities, he decided to go to work for Marathon/LeTourneau where he worked for 20 years while playing music on the weekends.
He is survivied by his wife, Bette Anne, mother, Lucille McGuire, brother, Jim and sister in law, Debra and sister and brother in law, Bobbye and Joe Brannan.
Larry and Bette eloped on his birthday, November 21, 1967 and 20 years later, decided that they needed to make their vows to God on June 14, 1989.
