Lanette "Smith" Yancey's Obituary
Lanette (Smith) Yancey was born April 8, 1930 in Stephens, Arkansas. She crossed over to her Lord and Savior and was reunited with her son, Mike, on May 30, 2019.
She grew up in the backwoods outside of Louann, Arkansas and graduated from Smackover High School in 1947. She graduated from Henderson State Teachers College in Arkadelphia, Arkansas in 1951 with a Bachelor degree in Elementary Music Education.
Lanette met Jimmy Yancey in college and they were married in Louann, Arkansas on May 28, 1952. She worked briefly as a public school music teacher before becoming a private piano teacher. She taught lessons for 45 years and served as president of Longview Piano Teachers Association.
Her proudest accomplishment was her children. Lanette was the mother of three boys—Mike, Tim, and Chris.
Lanette was always a Cumberland Presbyterian at heart and never lost her love and respect for her ”little preacher”, the reverend SQ Proctor whom she quoted on a regular basis.
Lanette was preceded in death by her son Mike, her brother John Smith, and parents Warner and Ethel Smith. She is survived by her husband, Jimmy, of 67 years, her sons and daughters-in-law Tim and Malia Yancey and Chris and Alisa Yancey, her brother Tommy Smith, and several grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
