Kimberly Law's Obituary
The world became a lot dimmer with the unexpected loss of Kimberly Jean Law, 62, on Sunday, April 19, which is also the birthday of Kimberly’s favorite person, her grandma Cynthia Alice Oller.
Kimberly was a vibrant, fierce, and groovy human being. People wanted to be around her because her wits made sure that they would learn something each time they were in her presence. Her determination made everyone else also strive to achieve things that did not seem possible. She was never afraid to stand up for what she felt was right even if it ruffled feathers. This made her the great historian and educator she is so well-known to be. Teaching for 35 years at St. Mary's Catholic School and Foster Middle School, she was able to reach thousands of students and faculty. Her students’ success was her top priority, and she was determined that they do the best she knew they could. She was also her students’ biggest advocate. Whenever she walked through town, she was always getting stopped by former students that would hug her and tell her how much her teaching helped them and how much they appreciated everything she did for them. Almost everyone has a story about Ms. Law; she was a pinnacle of the community.
Kimberly grew up in Girard, IL, with her partner-in-crime, Gary Jones; best friend and younger-than-she sister Danielle, who received Kimberly’s love and protection throughout her school years and beyond. Girard is also where Kimberly started a lifelong friendship with Richard Green, whom she visited and connected with as often as she could after she moved to Texas in 1985.
Upon graduating from Girard High School in 1982, Kimberly attended Blackburn College through the spring of 1985 studying political science and history. At Blackburn, she met another friend-for-life, Angela Dunlap. They picked up every conversation and meeting as though they had just spoken the day before even though that previous talk could have been months or years prior. Upon leaving Blackburn, Kimberly moved to Texas to wed and to be closer to family. She promptly finished her bachelor’s degree at University of Texas-Tyler in 1986 and began her teaching career in 1991.
Born March 17, 1964, at the stroke of midnight to Sharon Kay Oller and Daniel Eugene Law in Litchfield, IL, she married Stephen Ray Cason and had two perfect-beautiful children, Dustin Wayde Cason, who she grieved publicly since his passing in 2021 and is finally reunited with, and her daughter Victoria Renèe Cason. Kimberly’s spitfire and adventurous personality shaped her family dynamic with spontaneous trips and planned grand adventures, but her best adventure was becoming a "Kimmy" to her grandchildren. Her family, friends and the world have lost Kimberly’s extraordinary presence, yet she taught them how to keep loving despite deep loss.
Kimberly is preceded in death by her grandma Cynthia Oller; grandfather Floyd Oller; father Daniel Law; son Dustin Cason; uncle Floyd Oller and aunt Connie Striplin.
She is survived by her mother Sharon Oller; sister Danielle Self and husband Scott Self; daughter Victoria Cason and partner Bryan King; cousin Gary Jones and wife Stacy Jones; and her precious grandchildren, Jhett, Baylor, Braxton, Titus, Woods Law and Robin Jean.
Funeral services will be held in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home of Longview on Saturday, May 2 at 12 noon with burial to follow at Rosewood Park. A visitation will be held the night before at the funeral home between 6 and 8pm.
