Ms. Law was one of those rare teachers whose impact never faded with time. As a child, I knew she cared deeply for every student who walked into her classroom — especially the ones who may have been labeled “too much,” “too loud,” or “problem kids” elsewhere. She met each of us exactly where we were, embraced what we brought with us, and somehow nurtured the very best parts of us.
I definitely was not the quietest child, and to this day I can still hear her smiling voice saying, “Do you want some cheese and crackers with that ‘whine’?” What could have been frustration became humor, guidance, and love. Thirty years later, I still carry those lessons with me. I also proudly know all 50 states and capitals because she simply would not let us give up on ourselves.
Years later, when I became a teacher myself at St. Mary’s, I found myself turning to her again for advice. Just as she had been there for me as a child, she was there for me as an adult. Her kindness, wisdom, patience, and heart had no end.
Thank you, Ms. Law, for seeing what I needed before I ever knew it myself. Your love for your students lives on in so many of us. Sending love, gratitude, and prayers to your family during this difficult time.
