Kathryn Ann Smith Lowman's Obituary
Memorial services for Ann Smith Lowman, 86, will be held at the First Methodist Church on Thursday, July 6, 2017 at 11 a.m.
Kathryn Ann Smith Lowman was born in 1931 and passed away on July 4, 2017, in Longview, Texas. Ann was a native of Longview and a graduate of Longview High School. Ann was a descendent of Judge John Tyson Smith. She received her associates degree from Kilgore College, where she was a member of the Kilgore Rangerettes. She continued her education at the University of Texas, from which she received a bachelor’s degree in business. She taught business at Alice High School in Alice, Texas and retired as a mid-management professor at Coastal Bend College in Alice before returning to her childhood home in Longview in 1996.
Ann was an active member of The First United Methodist Church in Alice, where she taught kindergarten for 25 years and worked with the Methodist Youth Fellowship. She was also an active member of Longview First United Methodist Church, where she volunteered in the library and delivered devotional booklets to church members in nursing homes. Mrs. Lowman was on the board of directors at the Gregg County Historical Museum, where she served as a volunteer and a docent for twenty years and received the Volunteer of the Year award in 2013.
She enjoyed dancing throughout her life. She was a member of the Rangerettes Forever, where she performed at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City, a member of the Green Street Swingers who regularly performed at nursing homes, and continued line dancing at Colonial Village and Arabella Retirement Centers in Longview.
She was married to Russell Nelson Lowman for almost 60 years, who preceded her in death. She is survived by five children, Laurie Yarborough of Alice, Terry Lowman (Diana) of New Braunfels, John Lowman (Jana) of McKinney, Richard Lowman, (Pam) of College Station, and Russell Lowman, Jr., (Cindy) of White Oak. ‘Mamacita’ was greatly loved and adored by thirteen grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
