Kandie Wilson Mitchell's Obituary
Graveside services for Kandie Wilson Mitchell, 90, a resident of Longview since the1940s, will be held at 10 AM Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at Rosewood Park under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview with The Rev. Frank Hughes officiating. Mrs. Mitchell passed away at her home Friday night, February 16, 2018.
Kandie was born January 26,1928 in Memphis, TN and moved to Longview in the 1940s where she worked for Dedmon Electric Co. and later for the Greater Longview United Way from1952 until her retirement 46 years later. During her final year, her 20th year as executive director, a new all-time record of $1,018,336 was raised during the 1998 campaign.
She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church where she served on the Alter Guild for many years and was a member of the Daughters of the King. As a member of the Longview Pilot Club, Kandie served as chairwoman of the annual Spelling Bee and was voted Pilot of the Year in 1991. She was the recipient of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority's First Lady of Longview award in 1991 and was named the 1999 Citizen of the Year by the Longview Rotary Club. Kandie was also a supporter of the East Texas Area Council, Boy Scouts of America. She was active in the community and will be remembered as “a real community treasure” and someone who “made a difference”.
Kandie was preceded in death by her husband, F. Harold Mitchell, Jr., her parents, Clarence A. Wilson and Marie Patterson Wilson and four sisters, Dorothy Martz, Joppie Noe, Marie Hall and Zelma Rodgers. She is survived by her brother, Clarence Wilson of Mason, TN, numerous nieces and nephews and close friend, Billy Dale Rogers.
