Judy was born on October 7, 1941 in Longview to R.E. and Myrtle Henry. She was a 1959 graduate of Longview High School and graduated College at North Texas University. When she was a senior in High School, while playing the part of Mary, in a live nativity scene, she met the love of her life, Bill, as he was playing the part of Joseph. They married 3 years later on August 18, 1962 and they have been happily married for over 56 years. Mrs. Hurst was a school teacher for over 20 years, known and loved by her students as “Ms. Judy”. She was a 4th grade teacher with Judson ISD in her early years and spent her remaining years teaching 1st grade and Kindergarten with Henderson ISD.
Her family was her joy. She adored her grandchildren and she loved laughing and making memories. She had an incredible sense of humor. Mrs. Hurst loved Jesus, mentoring younger women, and was a faithful member of Grace Creek Church. She enjoyed many hobbies over the years including cooking, baking, trying new recipes, gardening, floral arrangements, and tutoring students. She always put others first and loved to make sure everyone was taken care of.
She was preceded in death by her parents, R. E. & Myrtle Henry; and by her sister, Sharon Oliver (Kingwood).
Those left to cherish her memory are her loving husband, Bill Hurst of Longview; Son and Daughter in law, Ab and Christy Hurst of Longview; Daughter and Son in law, Valerie & Blaine Jernigan of Henderson; Son and Daughter in law, Clayton and Ashlee Hurst of Katy, TX. Grandchildren Will, Rachel, and Luke Hurst, Blaine Aaron and Emily Jernigan, and Addison, Aubree, and Colton Hurst.
