Joyce Beene's Obituary
Joyce Beene died July 20, 2017. She was born June 26, 1924 to Eva Tyler and Tom Beene. She was preceded in death by her parents, all siblings, 5 nephews and recently her niece, Carol Barton.
She was a 1941 graduate of Jefferson High School, after which time she had numerous and interesting vocations, including being Executive Secretary Treasurer for Wellman Industries in Longview. Joyce was a member of the Longview Chapter Pilot’s Club and served a term as Texas Governor of this club. Her other achievements are too numerous to mention. She has been a resident of Lake O’ Pines area since 1995, and actively involved in the Mims United Methodist Church and various projects in the community.
She is survived by her nieces and nephews-in-law, Eleanor and J.E. Salter, Janette and Johnny Mahurin, Thomasine and Bobby Crow , Carl Barton, many great nephews and nieces, and her best friend/companion/caregiver, Betty Wellman.
For years, Joyce and Betty enjoyed traveling in their motor home, having visited 49 states and cruising to international locations. She loved working outside on her property, having family cook-outs, playing 42 dominoes, listening to gospel music and attending gospel concerts/conventions, and always enjoyed the companionship of her various dogs.

A memorial service will be held at the Mims United Methodist Church on Saturday, July 29, 2017 at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the Mims United Methodist Church Building Fund and Humane Society.
