Joseph Lyons' Obituary
Joseph Bourland Lyons, Jr. was born July 21, 1949, in Dallas, TX. On August 14, 2022, he left us for the perfect piece of real estate in a city built on worship on golden streets where there is no pain or sorrow. He was welcomed by his father and mother Joe and Marion Lyons, brother Bobby Lyons, Father-in-Law Henry Bergeron, grandson Jordan River Routzon and a host of believers whom he led to the Lord. God gifted him with the ability to mentor others for the Kingdom of God, which flowed into every aspect of his life including business. He was fondly referred to as “the Selling Machine “by his colleagues during his long career in the paint industry, which garnered him numerous sales awards. Papa, as his children and grandchildren lovingly called him, loved traveling with his family especially to the beach, the mountains and amusement parks. Being an avid, lifelong Dallas Cowboys fan, his kids accused him of holding onto this life just long enough to see the first pre-season Cowboys game last Saturday night. He awoke the following Sunday morning just in time to worship with the Heavenly Hosts. Although on Earth his singing voice was notoriously not on pitch, we know he was elated to hear himself sound like Pavarotti like he always dreamed. Joey has been a loving husband to Dawn Lyons for 48 years’ has always been supportive of Dawn in her ministry to children. They loved traveling in and out of the United States creating hilarious shenanigans along the way and making memories that will laugh a lifetime. He even surprised her on their 40thanniversary with a beautiful vacation to the beach with the entire family, a lifelong dream come true. He has been an amazing daddy to Molly Routzon & husband Jimmy, Marissa Lyons, Natalie Carver and Micah Lyons & wife Brooke and Papa to Bryce, Hagen, Lance, Josiah, Judah, Jeremiah, Elijah, Finley, and Margot. He is brother to 4 beloved siblings. We will miss our Thanksgiving football games with him in the yard, his own special rendition of Oh Holy Night at Christmas and get a big chuckle each time we continue his favorite game of “Got Ya Last! “We love you and look forward to seeing you again. Save us a room in your mansion.
A private family graveside will take place Wednesday morning and a public Memorial Service will take place Wednesday, August 17 at Motion Church in Longview between 2 and 4 pm.
