Dr. John Richard Lucas' Obituary
John Richard Lucas was born on June 21, 1939, in Midland, Texas to Helen Marjorie Waddell and Mack Lucas. Mack worked for Humble pipeline which moved the family, including sister Carolyn, back to Longview when he was two years old. As a young boy Richard enjoyed fishing and hunting on the family property which is now known as
Eastman Rd and Hollybrook.
Richard graduated from Longview High School in 1957. In 1962, he received a BA Degree from North Texas State University, where he enjoyed his time as a Research Assistant for the science department. Following college he married his high school sweetheart, Sara Ann Skaggs. He attended The University of Texas at Galveston Medical School from 1962-1966. Richard was a member of the Mu
Delta fraternity and graduated on the Dean's List. His internship was at Methodist Hospital of Dallas from 1966-1967 where he was recognized as The Intern of the Year. After completing his internship Richard was a United States Air Force Officer in Blytheville, Arkansas from 1967-1969. He completed his residency at Parkland Hospital in 1972.
He lived a full life married to his high school sweetheart, Sara Ann Lucas, from 1969-2010. They moved back to their hometown of Longview in 1972 with their 3 young children. He practiced OB/GYN in Longview from 1972-2007. After retirement he continued to serve the county through the Wellness and Zeid Women's Health clinic till 2015. Richard
always made time for his family who enjoyed ski trips, hunting trips and much time at Lake Cherokee.
In his office hung a framed photo of a doctor he had cut out of a magazine and carried in his wallet since he was 8 years old. It is estimated that Dr. Lucas delivered approximately 5,000 babies throughout his career. It was unusual to go anywhere where he was not reintroduced to someone he brought into this world. He was a Diplomat of The American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, 1974, a Fellow of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology,

Richard was faithfully committed to the First Christian Church of Longview where he served as a church Elder for Life. He dedicated much time through the years serving as chairman of the board, head of the building committee, fund raising committee and pastor search committee.
He married Andee Marie in 2013. Richard and Andee enjoyed cruises and traveling to places such as Italy. They loved spending time with both families and attending dinners and events with new and old friends. Andee was and continues to be a blessing to Richard's family. Richard enjoyed breakfast every Friday morning with "the boys" and monthly lunches with the RODEO (retired old doctors eating out) group.
Richard is proceeded in death by his parents, sister Carolyn, many loving aunts and uncles, his first wife Sara Ann Lucas, brother-in-law JR Curtis, sister-in-law Sue Curtis, nephew Jason Curtis.
He is survived by wife Andee, his children Tosch, Todd and Susan Ann Lucas Stroud (John) His precious grandkids, whom he invested much time and attention to, Tyler Anne Bosher (Sam), Miles Lucas (Mady), Sara Grace, Sophie Jane and Lucas Stroud. His legacy will live on through the lives of his great grandkids Hattie and Holland and those yet to be born. Additionally left behind, Andee's son David Wrather (Janet), John, Abbie, her daughter Cissy and her son Hunter. He is also survived by his nieces, Linda Kramer (Jeff), Lisa Kramer, Elizabeth Campbell (David), and great-nephew Randy Campbell.
Honorary pallbearers include Dr. John Hall, Dr. Edward Jacobson, Dr. Jack Elder and Dee Shappell.
Pallbearers are Tosch Lucas, Todd Lucas, John Stroud, Miles Lucas and Lucas Stroud. Richard was a good and faithful servant. He never spoke ill words of another. He was gentle and kind, a great father, grandfather, husband and friend. He was loved and respected by all and will be greatly missed by many. A heartfelt
