John "Johnny" Robert Campbell's Obituary
John “Johnny” Robert Campbell a devoted husband, father, grandfather and respected friend, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2025. He was born on March 18, 1949, in Brandon, Mississippi, to John William Campbell and Beatrice Alliston Campbell. Johnny graduated from Brandon High School in 1967. He then went on to play 2 years of football at Hinds Junior College in Raymond, Mississippi. After his time on the gridiron, he went on to study Industrial Management at the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg.
In 1968, Johnny met Shirley Collier at Hinds Junior College. They married in 1971 and went on to make Hallsville, Texas, their home. Together with his beloved wife, Shirley Campbell, they built a loving family that includes their daughter, Marie Shelton and son, Bobby Campbell.
He began working for Shell Oil, then known as Shell Pipeline, where he retired after 29 years as Operations and Maintenance Supervisor. After retirement, there was finally time to cut hay, and raise goats and cattle.
Johnny is preceded in death by his parents, John and Beatrice Campbell. He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley Campbell, daughter, Marie Shelton and her husband Stephen, son Bobby Campbell and his wife Courtney, grandchildren Hayden Shelton, Parker Shelton, Cord Campbell, and Collier Campbell. His grandchildren brought him joy every day. Johnny is also survived by an uncle, Joe Campbell and his wife Sissy, his brother Jimmy Campbell and his wife Sharon, sister Patsy Peden and her husband Richard, along with several nieces and nephews.
A service to celebrate Johnny's remarkable life will be held on January 25, 2025, at 2:00 PM at the Longview Missionary Baptist Church, with a visitation preceding the service at 1:00 PM. Friends and family are invited to come together to honor and remember Johnny, sharing stories and memories that reflect the impact he had on their lives.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Longview Missionary Baptist Church.
