Joe Curtis Short's Obituary
Funeral services for Joe Curtis Short, 82, of Longview will be held at 2 PM Thursday, July 21, 2011 at Macedonia Baptist Church with Brother Steve Cochran and Brother Bob White officiating. Services are under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview. Mr. Short went to be with the Lord on Tuesday morning surrounded by his family at his home.
Joe was born on June 2, 1929 in Marshall to James and Myrtle Short and was raised in Pineland, Texas. He proudly served his country in the US Army in the Korean War. Joe was married to the love of his life, Sarah, on November 27, 1955. He was a lifelong Christian and was a long time member of Macedonia Baptist Church. Mr. Short worked for 42 years as an engineer and retired as a Chief Superintendent from Phillips Gas & Oil.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 54 years, Sarah Short of Longview; his son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Jamie Short of San Marcos, TX; his daughters, Rita Knight of Longview, and Sarah Sutherland and her husband Todd of Hallsville; and one sister, Bobbie King of Carthage, TX. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jared Short and his wife Kylie of Boston, MA, Sarah Kathryn Short and Tyler Bradley of San Marcos, TX, Jonas Joseph Lee and his wife Natalie of Houston, Kendra Joi Lee of Austin, Gerald Curtis of Hallsville, and McKenzie Ann Sutherland and Melia Ann Sutherland, both of Hallsville; one great grandchild, Sarah Gwyneth Bradley of San Marcos, TX; and his dear devoted friend, Joe Christian.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Joe?s caregivers, Julie Bingham and Nancy Berry and to Dr. Carl Earnest and the nurses and staff of LifeCare Hospice for all of their loving care and attention.
