Jerome Jerry Hardegree died on February 14, 2008 after a lengthy hospital stay in Longview, Texas. Mr. Hardegree was born on December 24th , 1920, a twin, in Ben Wheeler, Texas to Edward and Cora Hardegree. He was a pilot in World War II and flew the hump in a C-46 aircraft in Burma for several years during the war. He attended SMU and made his business steel fabrications and gas compressors moving from sales to eventually owning Cherco Equipment. Mr. Hardegree worked in Iowa, Minnesota and Dallas before settling in Longview in 1967.
Jerry was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Barbara Maseman Hardegree, in 1998, by three brothers, Howard, Max and Ben and his twin sister Jean Bolin and his parents. He is survived by his children, Debbie Hardegree of Dallas and Jeff Hardegree of Longview, a brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Betty Hardegree from Mena, Arkansas, a sister-in-law, Betty Hardegree from Sonora, Texas, numerous nieces and nephews.
Jerry was a member of the First United Methodist Church, a lifelong golfer at Pinecrest Country Club. Jerry was an intelligent, quick witted individual with a colorful personality. He was an unforgettable character to all who knew him.
He will be greatly missed by his family who ask that in honor of his life and death on Valentine's Day, that you remember to exhibit love and appreciation to each other as a testament to his life and the life of Jesus Christ with whom he now resides.
Funeral services will be held at Twelve O'clock Noon Monday February 18, 2008 at the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home 16171 Judson Road with Reverend David Lindwall officiating. Interment will follow at Memory Park Cemetery under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview.
Memorials amy be made to the American Cancer Society
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday February 17, 2008 from 6pm until 8 pm.
