Jeanne Cornelius Dixon's Obituary
JEANNE C. DIXON
Jeanne Cornelius Dixon, of 4406 John Reagan St., Marshall, was taken up into the presence of her Savior on December 22, 2005. Born in West, Texas, on July 31, 1912, she grew up in parsonages in several towns across Texas and Oklahoma. She graduated from Texas State College for Women in Denton, where she also met her future husband as he attended North Texas State Teachers College. James Dixon, a young ministerial student, liked her piano-playing, and she accompanied him when he sang at area churches. She and ?Jimmy? were married in 1939, and after nearly 64 years of married life, he preceded her in death in April, 2003.
Jeanne Dixon first worked as an elementary school teacher, and later as church secretary, but her greatest fulfillment came through her roles as homemaker and faithful pastor?s wife. Music was always a vital part of her ministry; she recruited and mentored many teen musicians for trios and quartets. She loved working with young people, and they dearly loved her. During her years in Longview, 1949-2003, she was also a beloved Bible teacher for adult women during her husband?s pastorate at Greggton First Baptist Church and his associate pastorate at Oakland Heights Baptist Church. During their retirement, Mrs. Dixon ministered alongside her husband to senior adults and regularly played the piano at nursing home services.
She is survived by three children: Charles R. Dixon of Marshall, Mrs. Suzanne Fuller of Tyler, and David C. Dixon of Madrid, Spain; as well as nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts be made to the ?Spain Mission Fund,? through the Greggton First Baptist Church 4520 W. Marshall, Longview, 75604, or the ?James and Jeanne Dixon Scholarship Fund? at East Texas Baptist University, or to the mission of your choice.
Services will be held Saturday, January 7, 2005, at 10:00 AM at the Oakland Heights Baptist Church, 1600 Judson Road, Longview, under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview. Graveside service will follow at Lakeview Cemetery, 5000 W. Harrison Rd.
Visitation with the family will be at the Rader Funeral Home, 1617 Judson Road, Longview, on Friday, January 6, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Family visitation will also be held Saturday morning at 9 A.M. at Oakland Heights Baptist Church prior to the funeral.
